Nowadays, airplanes are the cheapest and easily available transport vehicles, if you want to travel long distances. Also while traveling on an airplane you must hear instructions like please switch off your cell phone or please put your mobile phone into airplane mode. But do you know what happens if we do not turn on the phone’s airplane mode on a flight?
If we do not turn on the phone’s airplane mode in a flight then our cell phone will naturally try to connect to cellular towers on the ground and signals emanating from our smartphones will interfere and overlap with signals of the airplane navigation system. Thus, they will become a barrier in airplane navigation and highly sensitive electronic equipment present on the airplane.
However, nowadays some airlines allow us to disable airplane mode while in flight but you have to enable airplane mode while taking off and landing.
Will airplane crash if I don’t turn on airplane mode?
However, till now no plane has crashed due to the fact that passengers haven’t enabled airplane mode. But this will not be the case always because on some unlucky day radio waves emitted by cell phones can be stronger enough to interfere in between signals transmitted by the navigation system and while landing or take-off pilots will not get proper information about the process and thus result in crashing of the plane.
So it is always better to turn on your airplane mode just after you enter the flight and turn it off while leaving the airplane. Also, some airlines now provide fast and reliable Wi-Fi on airplanes. And, this Wi fi is connected to a satellite so it will not interfere in between useful signals of airplanes.
